On the anniversary of World War II’s end, Sergei Mironov, Chairman of Party A JUST RUSSIA and the Leader of its State Duma faction called for recalling the terrible lessons of history:

On 02 September 1945, an act of unconditional surrender of Japan was signed on board the US battleship Missouri. That was the end of World War II, the most terrible war in the history of mankind. We who are descendants of the winners know how high was the price they had to pay for that victory. And we will do everything so that the peoples of the Earth could always remember the unparalled courage of our fathers and grandfathers.

But the war, as any other event, becomes a historical event sooner or later. It becomes the history that starts its life on the pages of textbooks, in verse and prose, movies and theatrical performances, and the works of military historians. And what is more, wars, even the bloodiest ones, become topics of speculations, lies and rewriting of history: this is the way of the world where dirty politicians adjusting history to their own mercantile interests have always been able to find some place for themselves.

History is not only science, it is also the lesson everyone must learn. But unfortunately, even such a terrible lesson as World War II has been learned very badly. In some countries, including Ukraine that itself experienced the horrors of Hitler’s occupation fascism is reviving. A number of politicians from the European countries that also suffered from the horrors of the war prefer to ignore the revival of the most terrible evil in the history of mankind.

Such "unlearned lessons" can’t be called as a mere shortsightedness. It is not only a crime against their countries but also against humanity. So, the anniversary of World War II’s end is a serious reminder about the necessity to learn the lessons of history. This is not the case when learning may "be put until tomorrow".
